Instead of bragging about my good fortune only I'll contribute something maybe worthwhile. I've been shooting for a long time now. Was just part of everyone's childhood where I grew up. I've been trying to get better at various things now that I have access to good information through the internet instead of dumb lore passed around by big talkers in the local gun store or idiots that think they know everything.
It wasn't until a few years ago that I got my first red dot and finally learned how to shoot with both eyes open with iron sights. No one ever taught me how and no one I knew IRL ever did that. My shot placement has improved a ton since I trained myself how to do it. I was a decent shot already but now I'm faster. I can find the sights much faster and it greatly improved my groups with pistols and other short barreled firearms.
I mostly shoot .22lr because it's so cheap and I have a ton of it. Stocked up after the last shortage back whenever that happened under Obama and .22lr vanished for a year or so. A Remington 550-1 is the firearm I use most often. Does most everything I need and it's cheaper to shoot than most of my other rifles. I like to practice lobbing in long range shots at a local creek. I throw aluminum cans in the water off of a bridge and take shots at them as they float away. Once they get really far out I have to lob shots in with open sights. Doing this over water helps because I can see how far off I'm missing. Grandfather taught me that trick a long time ago. He said it was how he learned.
