Connecting with neighbours Anonymous 01/22/2026 (Thu) 16:00:35 No. 11943 [Reply]
How do Hikarins connect with neighbours who are not really interested in speaking to you? Do you approach them when they're not in a rush? I'm in an apartment and I never really got to know about them much, the closest ones I've connected to were a couple in a lift and an old man who I helped.

The purpose of music Nameless 12/10/2025 (Wed) 18:30:10 No. 10 [Reply]
Was music an offshoot of language? Or language that of music? It's always been intriguing to me, how the two seem adjacent and attached to each other in some weird way. Would you be able to imagine your life without music? There are some places in the world that condemn music, but ordinary people still practice it. What are your thoughts, would we have gotten far with, or without it? A lot of older people tend too, of course, dislike musicians. Could you guys imagine yourself without music?

>>13 I learned in my highschool choir class, although I don't entirely remember nowadays. I'm sure there are tons of resources online, but I don't know of any off the top of my head to recommend you. You'll have to go search them out yourself. neco
>>
I think music and language are completely different things. The purpose of a language is to transfer information, the purpose of music is to express your emotions. I don't completely disagree with what the other anon is saying, I just think he's talking about a specific subset of music, the one with rules, as defined by music theory. But I don't think music should have rules, art doesn't have rules. Music is just noise, you can do whatever you want. Here, have some noise https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUwJT2YgvlI

Karma Nameless 12/23/2025 (Tue) 20:06:35 No. 16 [Reply]
Do other Hikarins believe in karma? It's a concept I find hard to oppose and at the same time hard to really believe in or support. There could be collective karma, but sometimes it is downright cruel in cases like assault. At the same time, it is to me that's easily one that can get gullible people if reincarnation is a factor. I've seen that good people tend to be better off in life, in a strange way. Guess it could be placebo effect, or just coincidences. People who are worse off, tend to be at the top, but their life looks miserable to me.
>>
I do not believe in karma, no. I believe in Christ and the just judgement of the Lord.
>>
Idk where you live but for me, I've only ever seen the bad guys win. There was this bully who heavily taunted me as a kid and not only did the bully get away with it even after I talked to teachers about it, she also became a top student academically and had a massive group of friends. Compared to me who never got some sort of comeuppance or anything positive really out of it. I straight up lost while she got everything. It's why I dislike the concept of karma. Because bad people are more than likely to win in this world. You have to take matters into your own hands if you want change.

I've only played the FF games on the SNES After that I don't really find a lot of them interesting, although I'm not that much of an RPG guy. Because it needs a lot of commitment, and usually I prefer smaller games.

Please, begin. It's a nightmare to setup, write everytjing down, but please begin. FFXI is unlike anyother MMO I've played. Its scope, immersion, depth, and god it feels like a time capsule to the 2000s, instant comfy nostalgia. I've been playing on and off since 2020, it's worth trying! And, also look into private servers for a more cozy experience.

After some months, maybe a year, I finally got the real ending from Action Doom 2. It's a first person beat-em-up that takes a few queues from Streets of Rage and other games. The story can be quite nasty however, so if you can stomach the places it could possibly go, it's a really good game. And the real ending is worth it https://www.doomworld.com/forum/topic/123821-action-doom-2-urban-brawl-reloaded/

You have been hit with the curse of ジャンプ Anonymous 01/21/2026 (Wed) 13:52:23 No. 11937 [Reply]
You have been afflicted with the curse and you will jump 500 times. Long long ago, a Hikarin was on his death bed, his wife looked at his search history despite his refusal - he yelled out, "ジャンプ!" before his death. It is possible he wanted her to switch to another tab, but it was reported that Jump comics had begun to decline after his death. It was also heard that nuclear manufacturing increase by 200% after his death, and earthquakes became more common. Therefore in Japan they call this the curse of ジャンプ. Ignore this post, and your wife will leave you unless you jump 500 times! One reply means that you will get qt romantic partner according to your desires!

what books have you read recently, hikarin? what is your go-to literary interest? what's your reason for reading it? talk about fiction or nonfiction, academia or entertainment, everything in between, as long as you find it interesting. however, discussion of manga and comics should be kept to the /jp/ board. e-book resources: https://annas-archive.org/ https://libgenesis.net/ https://sci-hub.se/ https://archive.org/ https://openlibrary.org/ https://www.gutenberg.org/

This one book i found that is about some really detailed medical problems some people had in the past, mostly really stupid people such as a guy that swallowed 50 knives for fun. I take this book with me sometimes and i show it to people just to disgust them.
>>
I have been reading a lot more lately, which is good. I am almost finished with Yukio Mishima's Sea of Fertility series. It's nothing short of beautiful. I am not the same person after reading Runaway Horses. Temple of Dawn piqued my interest in Buddhism, so I checked out a book titled "Essence of Buddhism" by Traleg Rinpoche from my library. It's a good introduction, and I'd like to read into Buddhism further. I enjoy political science but have read only little about it. If anyone has recommendations about anything (I'm interested in Mao or Showa Japan) I'd be grateful. >>374 It's not a novel, but a rather touching short story. "The Dandelion Girl" by Robert F. Young. I haven't read it yet but I have "When Sleepers Awake" by H. G. Wells on my list, so I'll throw that out there.
>>
>>374 >I don't know much about the pioneers or well established authors of the genre. This is going to sound weird, but Tolkien was an inflection point for science-fiction just as he was for fantasy. Much like in the fantasy genre, authors before Tolkien focused on exploring an idea or making a point rather than building an open world just for the sake of doing it. So bear in mind that those pioneers were nothing like 40k or really any of the modern sci-fi franchises, which have more in common with Tolkien than with Phillip K. Dick and such. H. G. Wells is a good starting point, I read almost a third of his bibliography when I was in high school and from what I remember, I liked his earlier work from "The Time Machine" to "Kipps", his later stuff was badly written, preachy and so optimistic and utopian that I couldn't take it seriously. I think it is completely valid to prefer modern, Tolkien influenced sci-fi over the old guys, so don't feel obligated to read Asimov or Wells if you don't like them.
>>
>>378 Noted. Thanks for the analysis. I do prefer the worldbuilding for the sake of worldbuilding, I enjoy getting invested into and enthralled by a fantasy or sci-fi world. Honestly, using 40k as an example, I really prefer the idea of the galaxy that 40k builds more than I enjoy any specific storyline within the galaxy. The larger framework in which the authors use to lay out specific stories. Do you have any recommendations for authors that do good worldbuilding?

Very mainstream book recommendation but i reckon that this is the worst book ever read. It's legitimately just torture porn disguised as something deep. While the setting descriptions are amazing, the character development is (in my opinion) extremely subpar. Upsetting because I wanted a good read that would toy with my emotions. cry

how do I recover from neetdom Anonymous 01/18/2026 (Sun) 13:39:13 No. 11922 [Reply]

But I still live like a neet, never really ever going outside. Lucky crycry I dropped out of high school when I was really young.. I wish I could get a job but it's so hard where I live. I don't know if a GED will be hard. It's hard to make friends now that everyones on their phones, maybe go outside to community places, public transport for example, strike up conversations if you see the same people over and over again, and if they ever invite you somewhere, go there. You could go to a coffee shop and hang out with old people, or to a bar which is a bit less exciting, and keep going there to have fun. I've always been frightened of the gym despite being around 60kg vengence You could always volunteer, which country are you from? You could look at apartment posters, or whatever poster is there in the community. The phone kind of made everyone a NEET in a way, and university is probably the last place to make friends officially. You could check out sites like Tagmap(even if it is dead) with weird anons. Try going to conventions, anything. I've felt that the feeling of being a NEET leaves you once you regularly develop a habit of studying. Good luck hikarin!

Hey Hikarichanners! This thread is for people to discuss rigs and help with building rigs, and I need help pls. vengence The only experience I had with building a compooter was watching a friend of mine build my last one, which didn't go so smoothly, so I want to just do it myself. I'll take any advice given to me, especially since I will want to use Linux (It's mainly for privacy concerns, and my building hatred for Microsoft, but I would also like to use it for gaming and probably video editing in the future). These are the components I found through PC part picker that were recommended to me from the monitor I chose. I mainly picked AMD components as people say that AMD is more compatible with Linux, also AMD parts are cheaper, and it helps fit my budget of around £1500 - £2000... https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/Gnwmt3 COMPONENTS CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM Cooler Motherboard - MSI B650 GAMING PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard Memory - Corsair Vengeance RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory Storage - Kingston KC600 1.024 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive Storage 2 - Seagate ST4000DX001 4 TB 3.5" 5900 RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive

Discuss cool chinese stuff here I'll start: >The Yongle Encyclopedia is a Chinese leishu encyclopedia commissioned by the Yongle Emperor (r. 1402–1424) of the Ming dynasty in 1403 and completed by 1408. It comprised 22,937 manuscript rolls in 11,095 volumes. Fewer than 400 volumes survive today, comprising about 800 rolls, or 3.5% of the original work. >Most of the text was lost during the latter half of the 19th century, in the midst of events including the Second Opium War and the Boxer Rebellion. Its sheer scope and size made it the world's largest general encyclopedia, until it was surpassed by Wikipedia in late 2007, nearly six centuries later imagine how cool it would've been if it survived cry >i wanna learn https://archive.org/details/chineseenglishbilingualvisualdictionary_201909

I wonder if it's received updates happy I learned about the Chaoshan region of China, it had been the origin of a lot of derivatives of it's culture, as it had been home to a lot of migration overseas. It had a lot of impact on Singaporeans, along with Indonesian Chinese, who were often the majority landowners, strangely often. Quite a few people there speak a variety of Mandarin that is the closest to ancient Chinese, and they're often referred to as the Teochew people. They also have a coming of age ceremony. Interesting people. https://www.omniglot.com/chinese/ A useful page for people trying to learning languages, a lot of documentation I'd recommend the movies, „An Elephant Standing Still” and „To Live” on https://kisskh.ws/ which I found a lot of East Asian shows in Also try out https://lightnovelpub.org/ for quite a few webnovels, albeit in English, Qidian would be better for Chinese https://www.konglongmandarin.com/ Another interesting website I came across to learn Mandarin from Peppa Pig

It's interesting how Japan diverged from Chinese Buddhism with schools of esoteric Buddhism with skull rituals. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tachikawa-ryu Chinese esoteric Buddhism never really flourished because of the persecution that arrived shortly after it began to be taught, and the name for it is literally related to the Tang dynasty - 唐密 It seems to be undergoing a small revival, with the designation of these temples by esoteric monks as important sites, because of their cultural influence outside China

>>11901 yes, the basic idea is: >put car on jack >unscrew cap under car and drain oil into pan >close cap >replace oil just be sure you are putting the right kind of oil as well as using the recommended amount (don't want to overfill it). most of the time you can just look it up. the air filter usually is just something you simply pull out and slide a new one in. that can also be looked up and easily done.

>>11759 No, not done with uni. Still a few years to go, i'm a part time student so it's taking some time. Working on it tho! >Any routines you recommend to get fit? Honestly I have been lifting so long I make my own routine based on what lifts I enjoy. There are plenty of beginner routines online, as long as you're doing compound lifts (aka exercises that hit multiple muscle groups, bench press, leg press, and lat pulldowns for example) and hitting all of your muscle groups (push, pull, legs, core) you'll be off to a great start. >And have money by the end of the year! Don't we all... laugh
>>
>>11766 Sorry hold on I didn't explain that well. Compound exercises hit multiple muscles. Like a pull up targets your back and bicep muscles. Compared to an isolated lift, like a bicep curl, that really only targets the bicep. And you want to work out different muscle groups. Push is chest and triceps, pull is back and bicep, legs and core are self explanatory. In the beginning it is common to do full-body days where you do an exercise that hits every group each day, but later on weightlifters usually switch to doing each group on separate days to hit them more intensely. If I were to create a beginner routine, it would be something real simple like: 3 (sets) x 8 (reps) dumbell chest press 3x8 lateral pulldown or assisted pull-up 3x8 leg press and three sets of however many crunches you can manage. Don't fall for the meme of autistically optimizing your lifts, do whatever you enjoy within reason. Lifting is in art as much as it is a science.

Excess negativity Nameless 01/04/2026 (Sun) 15:25:11 No. 21 [Reply]
Hikarins, do you believe in the quote negativity spreads quicker than positivity? How do you think it'd be possible to make positivity spread? How have you all been able to expel negativity?
1 post omitted.
>>
>>22 Is entropy randomness? How can I make use of it?
>>
I think people focus on negativity more, which in turn means it spreads faster. Seems like an evolutionary thing. It makes more sense to focus on things that are dangerous as a survival mechanism, but this sense has become something unintended. The same phenomenon has happened with stress. I think a good way to spread positivity is to embody it. People respond to someone with positive attitudes, behaviors, and actions. Putting it simply, the best way to spread positivity is to be positive yourself!
>>
>>24 >The same phenomenon has happened with stress. Can you tell me more about this? I know a lot of people who are unable to be stressed
>>
>>25 What I mean is stress evolved as a survival instinct to help us escape and avoid danger. But it isn't meant to be something you experience often or for long periods. Stress in the modern day comes from long-term issues like financial struggles, overwork, relationship issues, etc instead of like.... running from a bear or something. Stress is the silent killer because it wasn't intended to be experienced how we experience it today.
>>
>>24 I, in fact, do not find anything interesting in positivity.

Disappearing Woman World Glitch Anonymous 12/31/2025 (Wed) 14:52:54 No. 11754 [Reply]
Creepy story time for Hikarins! So, today, I was on a road trip with my family to attend an event. When we were coming back home, I was kind of sleepy. We were on the road, and we were going ahead in a pretty moderate speed. And then we approached a bridge. So, on the left hand side, I saw a woman. I was surprised since she seemed to walking towards the road which I'd presumed was a highway. She was in the middle of a winding road? From the highway to the water source, because it was a bridge. I swear I could see her pointing at me. Her other hand was at the top, and she was carrying an object. When we went ahead, she disappeared. She didn't move, she just went out of thin air. I was surprised, and I looked ahead once more. She wasn't there. I thought I was wrong, but as we went ahead, I started hearing noises from underneath our vehicle and from the left side, once more. I don't know if anyone hit her. The vehicles were stopped in the middle because there was an accident on our way. They were mechanical, but kind of like gas and vapor. I interpreted it as the world sending her away through spontaneous combustion. It was creepy and strange. The woman just disappeared. And we were at the side. Maybe she drowned. Because everyone was focused on the road.
