Speech problems general Anonymous 01/26/2026 (Mon) 14:08:03 No. 11963
Any other hikarians who suffer from speech impediments? What impediments do you have? When did it start? How do you cope? How many times do you wish death upon yourself when you're forced to speak publicly? How do you think it affected your life? I'll start: >What impediments do you have? stutter / stammer + heavy blocking >When did it start? as long as i can remember >How do you cope? obv i re-arrange my sentences and use synonyms but when i have to say a specific word that ik i will stutter in i try to skip or say the first syllable in a quieter voice this trick rarely works tho because i don't have a great control over my voice >How do you think it affected your life? ofc it made me make almost 0 friends as a kid because everyone thought i am a weird retarded kid because i sound like one hence i deserve to get bullied but actually now that i think about it, the lack of friendship was actually valuable cuz it made me develop skills and hobbies that i wouldn't have had time to
>>
>What impediments do you have? I have selective mutism, I stutter sometimes and have blocks (I think.) I don't know if it's considered a speech impediment, but I get thrown off when strangers greet me and so I can't greet them back. >When did it start? I can't remember any of it occurring before I was a teenager. I did, however, go to a speech therapist as a child, because I couldn't pronounce words properly; maybe the former issues were also present at the time. >How do you cope? When I was mute -which I haven't been for over 2 years, now- I would write my words down on paper. I don't feel as if I have to cope with my stutter. When strangers greet me, I have learned that I can reply with a nod, so as to not come across as rude. happy2 >How many times do you wish death upon yourself when you're forced to speak publicly? I feel embarrassed of myself after speaking to cashiers, but so do I feel about my other weird mannerisms. >How do you think it affected your life? The other impediments haven't been much of issues for me, but mutism has harmed me horribly at one point in life, I can't talk about it. >i deserve to get bullied Children are cunts, Hikarin did not deserve to get bullied. >the lack of friendship was actually valuable cuz it made me develop skills and hobbies that i wouldn't have had time to Skills and interests can still be shared between friends, Hikarin deserves someone to share theirs with.
Your fortune: Better not tell you now

>>11963 I never really had them, but I always feel bad for a few older people who are unable to speak well, I always try to speak to them but I have no idea if they understand me or if they get frustrated >>11966 Did people ever treat you differently in organizations that doesn't sound good cry
>>
>>11969 >Did people ever treat you differently in organizations that doesn't sound good I don't think I understood what you meant by "organizations." As a schoolchild, I was treated differently by my teachers and ignored by others in group projects. Although, that didn't have anything to do with my speech impediments, as they weren't apparent yet.
Your fortune: Very bad luck

>What impediments do you have? Alogia, or well poverty of speech >When did it start? At least from what my family proudly claims, its been with me forever. I taught myself how to read and speak English and Spanish (i lived abroad as a refugee) as a response to the fact my parents were neglectful of my existence; i was raised by my grandparents on both sides of the family. >How do you cope? i only really speak in places i feel comfortable in speaking and if i have to speak publicly i give myself a script and just pray to whatever god that someone doesn't ask me something i didn't prepare for. Additionally I just hang out in text forums so i can get my warped dose of social life. >How do you think it affected your life? Well to put in a way my partner usually describes me, its made me meek and very lonely. Even though people who meet me for the first time enjoy the way that i speak, they quickly get bored and annoyed of my way of speaking do to it being too embellished (my partner is unfortunately not the exception). Most of my friends are few and far between, with the majority of them just being mutual friends with my partner.

>>11978 Are there any advantages you've had with it? It sounds hard in projects :(

>>
>>11990 You can date me (if you're a girl). I would be too thankful to ever cheat on you. I don't have a speech impediment but I stutter sometimes because I forget the word I'm looking for sometimes.
>>
>>11992 Wow I got totally ghosted on my dating offer
>>
>>11981 No advantages, from what I have noticed. Maybe some people think that mutism is cute -another Hikarin said so about stuttering- but most people would treat me as if I was retarded when I was still mute. People would often times grab hold of my notepad, that I used to communicate with, when I spoke to them, which was very stressful. I recently remembered that I actually had a.a.c. cards as a child; some of the problems were evidently apparent when I was younger; I have even received a pair of anime-themed ones as a teenager, which wasn't too long ago, but I never used them. >>11992 >>12016 You come across as creepy when you ask female strangers, on an anime forum, to date you, and in a thread about speech impediments, out of all things.
Your fortune: Excellent Luck
>>
>>12021 >You come across as creepy when you ask female strangers, on an anime forum, to date you Maybe, but how else am I supposed to date a hikarin or find a date at all? I have to put myself out there if I want any luck. Also people who like anime don't exist here (south carolina), so I have bad luck when trying to find a soulmate

>>11963 I pronounce V's as W's

>>11979 >Alogia Not sure of i have this or just a very low verbal iq (even though i speak 3 languages "fluently")
>>
personally i don't know if i have a stand alone speech disorder but autism + adhd give me a hard time finding words, pronouncing them right, not stammering and then getting the whole sentence out. more often than not i fuck up one word and then have to restart the entire sentence over and over until i get it out one time fully start to finish without fucking it up

I have a British accent In all seriousness though, I fumble and mutter a lot in casual exchanges, especially in my mother tongue. I can roughly tell when a social cue is dropped, just can't grasp the words and cultural sentiment to respond to it properly. It is easier for me to react to such cues in English, but even then I'm not what you'd call "socially fluent". It's a bit uncanny because this isn't a case of being raised multiculturally, by migrant parents in an English-speaking country, or what have you. I just taught myself English from a very early age, and I do mean like from 7 or 8 yrs old (TV and internet, of course). In spite of the aforementioned, I can project my voice clearly during presentations no matter the language, so it only applies to casual situations. I don't think this is considered a speech impediment as such, but figured some hikarins might relate to this. The notion of finding it easier to communicate certain things in acquired languages is understood and not uncommon. I just think my case leans toward the more extreme end where my native fluency is effectively eroded.

>>13325 I gross at 90% of standalone expressions in my native language, like what do you mean "i love you" disdain, bitch you sound like a hog in heat

oh hey this thread is still up >>13321 >very low verbal iq Well it greatly depends! verbal iq mainly relates to how you process the intake of language, so low verbal IQ does impact expression. However Alogia is something that happens with language production and people with alogia tend to be able to understand language like "normal" ""people"". Id say the best rule of thumb to know if you have alogia is if your able to understand something down to the dot but have difficulties expressing it, say for example if you have difficult times on sudden questions versus paced conversation. wink

>>11979 > Alogia i've read about it, it's so interesting but does it affect only your speech (as opposed to writing)? also you seem like you got officially diagnosed, if so i would like to know how tiring the process & treatment were, because i'm still debating getting medical help
>>
>>13357 I took an IQ test once for an ADHD eval and got 120 something, I think the only thing it told me was that I have enough money and am white enough to pay for an expensive IQ test. It seems like a lot of it is based on pseudoscience to me...

>>13391 I can't believe trilingual white rich genius anons have the absolute gall to complain about anything angry2
>>
>>13382 Good morning hikarin! >does it only affect your speech It affects writing as well! Since it directly affects production of language i have to put substantial effort into elaborating things both written and spoken. I do write from time to time, but mainly ive found more enjoyment in taking pictures and drawing since a lot of my energy with writing gets drained, and i tend to have trouble continuing. >process & treatment I'll be honest, treatment is really ineffective since its part of a bigger issue i have. I've tried medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoanalytical therapy, even dialectal behavioral therapy was thrown in at a point despite the fact its basically useless to my condition. Medications would sedate me and give me an even harder time producing language, and therapeutically they treated me like a child with kanner's syndrome. I've seen people with cases like mine use communication cards or medical alert cards to bridge the gap with talking. Though communication cards have been basically hijacked by internet hypochondriacs and i'd rather not give a person i'm talking to a card that basically says "look at me I'm insane! call my doctor if I'm scaring you!"
