Great things are hard to come by. It has not been a good year for most, and really most years have been diminishing returns for a while, at least when looking at broad trends. But every day, I think it’s possible to still find something great, or at least good. I don’t mean to force yourself to be happy or to only look at the bright side of things. Instead, I’m thinking of moments when my life is truly down, and then suddenly I see something which makes me think “really, the world is still so beautiful.” I can be very misanthropic, very dour, especially on image boards which (hikari3 is an exception) I think often encourage being a “doomer.” but even then, I’ll see some little communication, one moment when one anon helps another anon, and I’ll think “still, people are beautiful.” I think anonymous image boards are better for this than anywhere else, because anonymity means nothing else matters but this one interaction. It means what happens is done just out of kindness, is always a little above what is necessary. In this way too, even if there are no great things this year, it will be little things which keep me going, which most make me believe that life is good. So have faith, hikarin! We all miss the past, but there is still so much good to see.
